New project GUARD: Rights of children at risk of detention

Starting July 2026, FORUM is joining as a partner in the two-year project GUARD (Guaranteeing, Upholding And Respecting the rights of children at risk of Detention), led by the International Commission of Jurists–European Institutions (ICJ-EI).

Children in migration must be protected from detention and rights violations. However, the implementation of the new EU Pact on Migration and Asylum risks increasing the use of detention and accelerated procedures across Member States.

The GUARD project responds to these very risks; its objective is to strengthen legal protections for migrant children and promote the implementation of the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum in line with the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, focusing on Czechia, Bulgaria, Ireland, and Greece through legal capacity building, cross-border exchange, and human-rights-based policy solutions.

Together with our partners, we will take part in national and transnational workshops, exchange of experience, expert legal analysis, and awareness-raising activities that build the capacity of legal practitioners and support systemic solutions for better protection of children at risk of migration detention.
